There were a lot of exciting things and not so exciting things going on at this Con. Vic of course was THE biggest attraction here but here are my pics from what went on with the whole con.
My hoodie which I had to retire. Its a thing i have. once its signed it gets framed and up on the wall
Vic and I. Blame the camera holder. he's fired for the blurryness
The 501st division is a group of people who ACTUALLY make the Star wars costumes and go all over the country doing functions..
This kid I wanted to take home. His costume, mannerism, and expressions were just to perfect!
The following is a letter and response that I wrote to the convention board for suggestions on next year with all the downs that a lot of people had with this convention
Hi Shannon,
Thank you for the comments and suggestions. Every idea and every
comment helps us make the show better.
As for your biggest suggestion of moving it elsewhere, unfortunately
that is not in the cards right now. The only other place in the Phoenix
valley that has space larger than what we are using is the Phoenix Civic
Plaza. We've inquired into space and rates, and the minimum amount of
space you have to reserve is three times larger than what we are
currently using. Add in the additional security and insurance required,
and it is simply cost prohibitive at this point. We've still got room
to expand with the Marriott hotel's convention space and have yet to hit
the attendance maximum as set by the City of Mesa Fire Marshall, so
hopefully you'll stick with us as we stay in Mesa.
As for the lighting - simply out of our control. (And yeah - some of
our photos in the exhibitor hall come out a tad bit on the orange side).
In regards to advertising in school papers - we are on the same page and
that will be done for 2008. Our overall marketing saw us distribute
over 50,000 fliers, mailed 5,000 postcards, placed 1,000 posters on ASU
campus, commercials on Sci Fi and Cartoon Network, along with impressive
earned media (AZ Republic, Get Out, East Valley Tribune, New Times, plus
Echo, ASU State Press, College Times, La Voz, ABC Channel 15, and more).
And as for the vendors - We hear this complaint every year that there
isn't enough variety. I hope you understand that it is entirely up to a
vendor if they want to exhibit or not. If you know of vendors who have
materials you think is appropriate for the under 7 crowd - then please
tell them of our event and attendance and forward their information on
to us. We reach out to many stores and exhibitors, but they each make
their decision based on cost and return on investment.
We've got a lot in store for 2008 and look forward to seeing you next year!
Best,
